The Nunsense Christmas Musical

Auditions:          Monday, October 11 at 7pm

                               Tuesday, October 12 at 7 pm

Rehearsals:          Begin immediately

Tech Rehearsals: November 28-December 2, 2010

Production:          December 3-19, 2010

                                 Fridays & Saturdays at 8 pm

                                     & Sundays at 2 pm

Audition Requirements:

• Roles for 1 male and 5 female, 2 Girls, 2 Boys

• A prepared solo of no more than 24 bars of a show tune NOT from this show

• An accompanist will be available at auditions – bring sheet music with cuts already marked
• Although not recommended, taped or CD tracked accompaniment is permissible – bring CD or taped cued to appropriate place
• Cold readings of scenes from script
• A dance routine to be taught at auditions

Wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear for dance auditions

CAST:

Sister Mary Regina: (mezzo/soprano),

The Mother Superior. Grew up in a circus family and her “showbiz” background and humor shines through her attempt at creating a rough exterior.

Sister Mary Hubert: (Gospel-style mezzo)

Mistress of Novices, Second in command and very practical.

Sister Robert Anne: (Broadway mezzo )

Streetwise nun from Brooklyn. A tough cookie with a heart of gold. feels her theatrical potential is not appreciated by Mother Superior, who refuses to let her “star” in the show

Sister Mary Paul: (Country-style mezzo)

Hit on the head with a crucifix and for a long time, didn’t remember who she was; now, with her memory restored, she is known as a country singer and the first nun to appear at the Grand Ole Opry; still seems a “little vacant”, but is innocently endearing

Sister Mary Leo: (mezzo)

(also serves as the voice of the Nun Puppet, Sister Mary Annette) – dedicated her life to becoming the first famous nun ballerina so is very excited to be in the Christmas show.

Father Virgil Manly Trott: (tenor / high baritone)

Sister Leo’s “real life” brother. Has his own radio show and was part of the Trott Family Singers

Mount Saint Helen’s Students (A flat to F)

two boys and two girls, ages 8-14. also calls for whistling

SYNOPSIS: The Nunsense Christmas Musical is the first “TV Special” taped by the sisters in their convent basement studio for Cable Access. It stars the nuns you love plus Father Virgil and some of Mt. Saint Helen’s most talented students. It features all new songs including: Twelve Days Prior to Christmas, Santa Ain’t Comin’ To Our House, We Three Kings of Orient Are Us, and It’s Better to Give Than To Receive. This show is filled with “Nunsense” humor, some of your favorite carols, a “Secret Santa,” and an uproarious take on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet. Nuncrackers will make you laugh and maybe tug at your heartstrings. It’s the perfect way to insure your holiday season is merry and bright.
